FLINT, MI – Financial Plus Credit Union has been awarded first place for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for its FPCU Loves Teachers Classroom Makeover Giveaway. The giveaway was centered on providing teachers in the Saginaw community the financial assistance to makeover their classroom in order to provide their students with ample learning opportunity.
Credit unions could receive the award for involvement in almost any kind of activity that helps other people or strengthens the structure of a community. Financial Plus asked the community to vote on the Financial Plus Facebook page for who they felt should win the $1,500 makeover. By receiving the most votes, Ms. Kalena Kenny from Hemlock Elementary won the $1,500 giveaway for her classroom makeover.
The community response for the giveaway was extremely positive generating a total of 80 nominations and over 3,000 votes. With the overwhelming number of votes and nominations, Financial Plus Credit Union also gave away a $500 classroom makeover to second and third place nominees, Mrs. Isabella Lopez (Freeland Learning Center) and Mrs. Courtney Theisen (Shields Elementary School).
Financial Plus Credit Union will now compete nationally for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) National Awards.
