Dear Financial Plus Credit Union Members

As our great State of Michigan begins to gradually allow for more business and leisure activities, I want to share with you the plan to re-open our branch lobbies.  But first, I want to express my sincere appreciation to the employees and members of our Credit Union.  The patience and kindness you’ve shown to one another over the past ten weeks has been the true embodiment of “people helping people”.

Similar to the approaches being taken by many other financial institutions and businesses, FPCU will open lobbies to members in phases.  On Monday, June 1st, we will begin welcoming members to our branches by appointment only.  On June 12th, upon expiration of the Stay Home, Stay Safe order, we will re-assess this practice and provide members with notice of our appropriate next steps.  For the safety of our employees and members, a number of necessary protocol have been established in accordance with state and federal health guidelines.  Each action, intended to maximize social distancing, is available on our website and will be provided to members who are scheduling appointments.

While our lobbies will soon be open, I’d still encourage you to access all of your Credit Union product and service needs through our digital channels.  From account opening to loan applications, FPCU is here to serve nearly all our member banking needs remotely, log into online or mobile banking, visit an ATM, or call our Contact Center at (800) 748-0451.

Our employees choose to work for our Credit Union in part because of its mission of service. While we all wish the pandemic didn’t occur, this crisis has once again solidified the pride and gratitude we have in being given the opportunity to serve our members.  FPCU has been available to our communities, uninterrupted since we were founded in 1952, and we’re ready to help each of you build your financial future. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or if you need assistance.

Thank you,
Brad Bergmooser

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) SCAM ALERT: During times like these when the Nation is dealing with issues impacting the world such as the Coronavirus (COVID-19), there is a rise in fraud attacks and attempts to obtain financial information. In order to avoid falling victim, it is critical to be aware of such scams, and to be on high alert.  The criminals of the world are focusing in on the COVID-19 pandemic to increase the chances of obtaining private financial data and/or attempting to gain access to financial information.  There has been a significant rise of Coronavirus-themed phishing attacks recently. (Phishing is a way criminals obtain sensitive information (like usernames or passwords). Unfortunately, it is expected this trend will continue to increase in the coming months as we navigate through the Pandemic.

Please be aware, there are many scams surfacing. Some of the scams range from “advice-themed” messages, to offering insight into treatments or avoidance practices, to “policy-themed” messages, offering new policies or changes to the pandemic plan.  Additionally, there will likely be an increase in “aid request” messages, requesting you to give money to help people who are in need.  Proceed with caution as these all could be sent from illegitimate organizations, non-profits, individuals, criminals, etc. Members should avoid clicking links within text messages too and not respond to these messages that request account information.

Some of the ways to avoid falling victim to one of these scams, is always proceed with caution and skepticism.  Ask yourself questions such as, “Am I expecting this message?” If you answer “No”, always apply more scrutiny before opening the email message.

  • Never open unknown email attachments.
  • Never click unknown website links.
  • Never enter any credentials (i.e. passwords, usernames, credit card information, etc.) on a site from an email. Always browse to a known trusted site.
  • When in doubt, do not open suspicious email and complete your due diligence.

There are so many ways for perpetrators to attempt to get personal information, including the use of auto-dialers and text messages. It is important to remind members to limit the release of personal information in order to protect yourselves from fraud. Remember, when in doubt, do not proceed and NEVER provide private information such as: your social security number, date of birth, passwords, personal identification number (PIN), account number, etc. If you have any questions or need assistance, please call the Financial Plus Credit Union Contact Center at (800)748-0451.

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act

The CARES ACT allocated $350 billion to help small businesses and nonprofits keep workers employed amid at the pandemic and economic downturn. Please see the CARES ACT emergency loans guide below:

Small Business Association (SBA) Disaster Assistance Resources

The Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act 2020 (H.R. 6074) expanded the Small Business Act’s definition of a disaster to include Coronavirus (COVID-19).  As a result, the SBA will be able to provide Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) under a Governor’s Certification Disaster Declaration. In order for SBA to issue an EIDL declaration, the Governor must submit a written request to SBA with supporting economic injury loss information that certifies at least five (5) small businesses in a disaster area have suffered substantial economic injury as a result of the disaster. Please see the SBA updates and potential resources below:
