Financial Plus Credit Union Awards 10 $1,000 Scholarships to Exceptional Students

FLINT, MI –
Financial Plus Credit Union is proud to award their eleventh annual “Reach for Success” Scholarship to Gianna Collier, Isabel Cumper, Isabelle Guerrero, Ethan Hays, Jack Johnson, Brooke Laine, Gabrielle LaBeau, Jenna Morrison, Stephen Stewart, and Rithvik Venisetty. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship to use during their 2026-2027 academic school year. This scholarship can be applied towards tuition, fees, books, and room and board.
Each candidate completed an application and short essay responding to the following prompt: Think about how ready you are for a successful money future. Do you feel prepared? Why or why not? Share one specific thing you wish you had learned about money earlier in life. Talk about how you’re going to learn it now and how it can help you succeed in the future.
“Reviewing more than 150 applications this year made it clear just how many driven, compassionate, and talented students are making an impact in their schools and communities,” said Meghann Adams, Financial Wellness Specialist at Financial Plus. “Each of these recipients has a unique story and bright future ahead, and we’re proud to support them as they pursue their dreams.”
This year’s scholarship recipients represent a diverse group of future leaders. Gianna, a current Madonna University student from Saginaw, plans to pursue veterinary school inspired by her lifelong passion for caring for animals. Isabel, a dedicated student-athlete graduating from Freeland High School, balanced academics, athletics, and community service throughout high school and will attend Northwood University this fall. Isabelle, recognized for her compassionate nature and desire to help others, plans to pursue nursing at St. Clair County Community College after graduating from Imlay City High School.
Several recipients have already demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and service. Ethan, a graduating senior from Jackson and current Youth Advisory Council president, completed more than 400 hours of community service during high school and will attend Michigan Technological University. Jack, a student at Powers Catholic High School, will attend Michigan State University after dedicating his summers to leading Vacation Bible School. Brooke, a student journalist covering the Flint Water Crisis at Davison High School, will continue her education at Central Michigan University this fall.
Other recipients stood out through resilience, mentorship, and academic achievement. Gabrielle, a Swartz Creek High School student headed to Grand Valley State University, hopes to pursue a career in healthcare inspired by her compassion for others. Jenna, an honors student at the University of Michigan-Flint, demonstrated leadership while teaching in an online ESL program for local immigrants.
Stephen, a Kettering University student and president of the robotics club, has inspired peers through his creativity and leadership. Rithvik, a brilliant senior from Grand Blanc High School, will attend the University of Rochester this fall, where he plans to continue pursuing his passion for learning and sharing knowledge with others.
Scholarship judges at Financial Plus reviewed all eligible entries and awarded the recipient based on attaining all requirements.
